Give Yourself the Gift of Better Sleep

Are you tired of waking up without feeling rested? Perhaps you’re groggy, sore, or simply tossed and turned, unable to get comfortable. Unfortunately, this is an all-too-common occurrence anymore. People who wake up without getting the important sleep that their body needs to function.

Luckily, it’s not a life sentence. In fact, there are several things that you can do in order to help yourself find better rest. Follow these simple, yet effective tips to increase the amount (and quality) of sleep you are able to get on a regular basis.

Start by getting yourself ready for bed and create a routine. Maybe you’re an evening showerer. Change into pajamas, put on lotion, etc. It’s also a good idea to settle down in more ways than one hour or so before bed. Avoid exercise or TV during this time, allowing your mind to settle. You’ll also want to avoid eating any food at least an hour before bed. Lower the lights, play calming sounds, etc.

The more of these types of steps you can take, the better prepped your body will be for bed. If you plan a bedtime around the same time each night, this can further help you set an internal clock.

Next, if you toss and turn, work to find out what it is that keeps you up. If you’re uncomfortable, replace your mattress, get a topper, or look for new pillows. Replacing (or even just washing) your sheets can also allow you to better settle down, or to remain more comfortable once in bed.

Finally, consider your sleeping environment. Are the lights on? Are there loud noises? How is the temperature? Any or all of these steps can work toward providing you with better sleep. Turn on background noise to keep out sounds like cars or barking dogs. Place a fan to help keep you cool, and more. Even these extremely simple steps can help you find (and keep) better rest each night.
