The attached remote control is easy to operate and allows the user to raise and lower the upper mattress, while laying in bed! Just raise the mattress to your desired level, release the remote, and it stays! Now you can sleep the entire night in a preferred position, without piling up stacks of pillows or bulky wedge cushions. Raising your upper body is recommended for better comfort when sleeping with many respiratory illnesses and allergies (acid reflux, GERD) and after injuries and surgery.

"I bought this as a birthday gift for my elderly aunt. I was a bit skeptical that an air mattress-type unit could lift a queen mattress but it did it, and it did it well. The maximum incline, while not upright, is quite steep and is great for TV watching. We ended up buying another for my mom...Amazon customer 2-3-2009

Reviews for the Mattress Genie Adjustable Bed Wedge:
- I have had my mattress genie for 5 days now
and I simply love it! Wow, the comfort is unbelievable! I fell and fractured
a rib on my right side a month ago. I had been sleeping in my recliner and
decided to look into buying an adjustable bed. I was lucky to find the
mattress genie" when I was searching for an adjustable bed. I am so thankful
I ordered it! I have not slept in my recliner since I had the mattress
genie. The very first night I slept on it, I slept for 8 hours. I was so
amazed when I woke up and saw that I had slept for such a long time. For the
price of it and also receiving the free knee wedge, it is unbelievable. Te
knee wedge is so nice also! I highly recommend the mattress genie if you
don't won't to spend a ridiculous price for an adjustable bed. Now I am
getting ready to ready to order the "Free" massage system that is offered
when purchasing a mattress genie. You cannot beat the comfort and relaxation
and the price is a good price. It also has light on the motor and hand
control; very nice! I don't have to use my night light in my bedroom because
the light from the hand control and motor is sufficient for the room. One
other thing, the noise from the motor is not too loud. Of course it is going
to have a noise but it is not bothersome at all. Plus when it is deflated,
there is not any noise, it is very, very quiet. I love sitting up in bed
watching T.V. This is a Great price for the comfort and relaxation! Buy it,
you'll love it also! ... Contour Customer 4/11/2011
- I purchased this for my brother in law after
heart surgery. He found it very useful in resting in bed and getting himself
out of bed. Much easier and practical than a hospital bed for our needs.
Best bed wedge we researched. ...Amazon.com Customer 2/11/2011
- I recently purchased the twin bed Mattress Genie Bed Lift System...and it has been wonderful!!! The only problem is that you shouldn't leave the
remote to close to you at night if you roll over you can hit the flat button
and it deflates on you:) LOL But otherwise VERY GOOD STUFF!!! - Amazon

- This mattress genie was just the ticket for my dad. He was coming home
from the hospital where he had been sleeping with his head elevated due to
pneumonia. He did not want a hospital bed, but we felt pillows would not be
supportive enough. Enter the mattress genie. Works like a charm. Motor is a
little noisy, but once you have the angle set it doesn't need to be changed
often. It is well built and the compressor is powerful. I did find that on
his full size bed I had to wrap a strap around the mattress to keep the
other side of the bed from elevating more than the side his weight was on. A
good old ratcheting tie-down did the trick and now it all comes up at the
same rate. The large lighted control is a plus also. I would definitely
recommend this as an alternative to a hospital bed. M. King on July 16, 2009
- I needed the Mattress Genie after major abdominal surgery that left me
with little ability to get myself up out of bed. The Mattress Genie, plus a
pillow under my knees basically turned our mattress in to a "craftmatic
adjustable bed" with very little fuss or expense. It is similar in operation
to an Aerobed, very simple to set up. T. Obrien on

- The Mattress Genie is a life saver! My mom was getting out of the
hospital and we needed a product that would lift the mattress so she could
get out of bed easier, plus have the comfort of sitting up at different
positions. It worked wonderfully and I have recommended this product to many
people. ...Kathleen December 14, 2008
- I have chronic lower back pain (for about 18 years now), and can not
sleep on a flat mattress. I found I could sleep only in a recliner. So I
decided to try this product on a Queen sized Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress,
and it has worked great for me. I do sleep on the mattress by myself (in the
middle), and have the Mattress Genie inflated to nearly max, and I also have
a cushion under my knees. The mattress does not slide around at all, and
with this setup I sleep very well.
For traveling, I find that this product is easy to pack, and it's not heavy
at all. The compressor is not very large, and the inflatable part deflates
and folds neatly. I find it fairly easy to install in any hotel bed. Since I
always request queen size beds, it fits perfectly. And the maid service
never disturbs the installed Mattress Genie.
Overall, I think it's (Mattress Genie) a good product. It works well for me, I can take it
with me when I travel, and if it breaks, it's cheap to replace.
Update: Some have commented that this product is noisy. Wanted to clarify
that it only makes noise when you inflate/deflate it. Otherwise it is
completely silent. Also wanted to state that the compressor does have a
"quiet" setting that makes much less noise than the normal setting. So for
those that are worried about too much noise, there is the option to switch
the compressor to the more quiet setting. This will cause the compressor to
take a little more time to inflate the Mattress Genie, but that's the
trade-off for less noise. I personally don't think it's too noisy either
way.
I am still using the Mattress Genie, going on for just over 2 years now, and
am very satisfied with it. It travels with me on business trips (I find it
easy to pack it), and I would recommend it to anyone who needs to sleep in
an elevated bed, but doesn't want to change out their regular bed for one of
those hospital beds or pay for an expensive adjustable bed. It hasn't
damaged my mattress, and I continue to sleep well with it. I do make
adjustments (inflate/deflate) from time to time, and it works flawlessly.
Very convenient to have that remote (that lights up, by the way) handy for
making adjustments. - Amazon Customer on December 8, 2008
- My 83 year old mother has scoliosis of the lower back and is in chronic
pain from it. She was having to sit up in bed to get any kind of sleep but
she wasn't getting a good night's sleep. I started looking into adjustable
beds for her and was shocked at the price. As I Googled adjustable beds up
came the web site for Mattress Genie. I showed it to my mom and she was more
than happy to try it. Since she recently moved into an assisted living place
close to me she had downsized from a double bed to a twin bed. She told me
the day after it came and I had set it up she slept all night long. She
loves it! It's such a simple product to set up and now she's sleeping so
much better. Thank you Mattress Genie for designing such a wonderful
product. 10-9-2008
- This (Mattress Genie) has been a lifesaver after surgery.
The best thing
to help going to sleep after surgery. ..September 30, 2008
I have breathing problems and have been sleeping in a recliner for some
months. I started looking at electric beds and stumbled upon the mattress
genie. Since I need only to have my upper body elevated, I thought this
might be the answer to my problem. I was right. I am once again sleeping in
my bed ! It's a great product at a very reasonable price. - August 15, 2008
- Bought this for my mother. Has really helped her. It is noisy when
inflating, but that is no big deal really. She doesn't change it very much,
it hasn't lost any air in the weeks since we originally installed it. So
far, so good. - July 30, 2008
- We purchased the mattress genie after bringing my daughter home from the
hospital following spinal fusion surgery. The post-surgical pain made it
impossible for her to get comfortable in bed, and she could only sit in a
recliner chair. For the first several days she did a circuit from one
recliner to another all night long. In the hospital, she had been able to
get reasonably comfortable in the adjustable hospital bed, so we looked into
the mattress genie as a possible way to bring her some relief (and to get
her to be in bed at night).
I was a bit apprehensive reading some of the other reviews, but was pleased
(and a bit surprised) to find that the mattress genie really works as
advertised. It really does elevate the head of the bed very well, and even
though my daughter has an inner spring mattress, it did "break" and bend
when she layed on it, creating much the same profile as a hospital bed.
To put in perspective some of the negative comments in other reviews, I'd
point out that you need to have the right expectations going in, and if
you're using it as we did (for one 100-pound individual lying in the center
of the bed), it works surprisingly well, especially given the price. The
inflation pump is the decibel level of a typical electric air mattress pump
or vacuum cleaner (i.e., on the louder side), but we had no problem at all
with the air bladder deflating overnight as some others have reported. It
retained the air fully, so only needed to be inflated once before going to
bed and was still pretty much in the same position in the morning. Thus, the
noise level of the pump really wasn't a concern for us.
It does raise the mattress up to as much as 40-45 degrees, although we
generally didn't need to go that much. It deflates quietly, and the motion
when raising or lowering is very smooth and my daughter found it comfortable
after her surgery. I can see how some reviewers had an issue when a husband
and wife tried to lay on the bed together while using the mattress genie. It
is very stable in the center of the bed (so works great for one person
centered on the bed), but does make the edges rather unstable so it may be a
challenge for two people laying on the edges of the bed. I would recommend
using it with a bed that has a solid footboard (as well as headboard or up
against a wall), as it does indeed tend to move the mattress toward the foot
of the bed as it raises it. Similarly, the air bladder tends to move itself
toward the head of the bad at the same time. A footboard stops the mattress
from moving too far, so kept it well contained.
This product was spectacular for what we needed, did its job very well, and
helped my daughter get in a comfortable position and sleep in her bed
following her spinal fusion surgery. I'd highly recommend it, taking into
account some of the considerations I noted for your specific situation. -

- Product gives adjustable lift to the head of the bed without causing you
to slide down in the bed as the automatic bed did. We have tried them all:
pillows, block elevators and the electric bed, and this product has proven
superior. Very easy to use and effective at preventing reflux over night. ...
